The Artisan Bakery, a beloved local bakery known for its handcrafted bread and pastries, needed to transition from an outdated, non-responsive website to a modern, engaging, and e-commerce-ready digital storefront. Their primary goals were to increase local visibility, allow customers to pre-order specialty items online, and create a website that truly captured the warmth and quality of their brand.
Outdated Design: The previous site was not mobile-friendly, resulting in a poor user experience for over 60% of their visitors.
No E-commerce: All orders were taken over the phone, leading to inefficiencies and missed sales opportunities.
Difficult to Update: The old system was clunky, making it impossible for the owner to update the daily specials or add new products without technical help.
I developed a comprehensive solution by building a completely custom WordPress theme integrated with WooCommerce. My process focused on three key pillars:
User-Centric Design:
Starting with Figma, I designed a warm and inviting user interface that puts their beautiful product photography front and center. The design is fully responsive, providing a seamless experience whether a customer is browsing on a phone while on the go or on a desktop at home.
Custom WooCommerce Integration:
I set up and configured a WooCommerce store to handle online pre-orders. This included creating custom product fields for pickup dates, integrating a secure payment gateway (Stripe), and designing an intuitive one-page checkout process to minimize cart abandonment.
Empowering the Client:
Using Advanced Custom Fields (ACF), I built a flexible and incredibly user-friendly backend. The bakery owner can now easily add new products, update their weekly menu, post blog articles about their baking process, and manage all online orders from a simple dashboard, all without writing a single line of code.
The launch of the new website was a remarkable success.
Within the first month, online pre-orders accounted for 35% of their total weekly sales.
The website’s bounce rate decreased by 50% due to the improved mobile experience and faster loading times (achieving a 94 Google PageSpeed score).
